Story Behind the Image - “What Was Left”

Someone asked recently how this rock ended up on top of this snow pillar
on the Hispar glacier in northern Pakistan. Truth is, the rock was on
top of the snow or was even once buried in the snow. But over time as
the glacier receded the glacial snow melted and left this rock sitting
balanced on what is called “stalagmites”. At some point, the ice and
snow will melt and the rock will roll back onto the glacier floor and
most likely begin the process all over again. Pretty neat eh!
